Things a true Southerner Knows

*Rocking chairs and swings are guaranteed stress relievers.

*Rocking chairs and swings with an old person in them are history lessons.

*The difference between a hissie fit and a conniption fit.

*Pretty much how many fish or collard greens make up a mess.

*That "gimme sugar" don't mean pass the sugar.

*When somebody's "fixin" to do something, it won't be long.

*How good a cold grape Nehi and cheese & crackers are.

*Knows what, "Well I Suwannee !!" means.

*When "by and by" is.
*A belt serves a greater purpose than holding Daddy's pants up.

*The differences between a redneck, a good ol' boy, and trailer trash.

*Never to go snipe hunting twice.

*You may wear long sleeves, but you should always roll 'em up past the elbows.

*The difference between "pert' near" and "a right far piece".

*They know that "just down the road" can be 1 mile or 20.

*A true Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction of "yonder."

*A true Southerner knows exactly how long "directly" is - as in "Going to town, be back directly."

*When you hear someone say, "Well, I caught myself lookin", you know you're in the presence of a genuine southerner.

**And a true Southerner knows when someone looks at you, shakes their head and says
"Bless your Heart" , what their really saying is "What an Idiot"**

The "Music" Gene

My Dad had it

My Brother has it

My Son has it

My nieces have it

Not me...I can't carry a tune in a bucket, much less play an instrument. My Dad could play any instrument put in his hand. I've heard him play a guitar, bass and electric, "fiddle", mandolin,
banjo, piano, organ, even a trumpet. Daddy never had a music lesson, it just came natural.

My brother Greg and my son Jake play guitar and my niece Sarah plays piano. Audrey and Sarah have beautiful voices, as did my Dad.

Growing up, Music was a big part of my life. My Dad had a band and they played somewhere every weekend. He even went to Nashville and he had an agent. He also cut a few records. He pursued his dream for several years. I don't know if he ever really thought he would make it big, I just think he absolutely loved playing and singing.

About a month ago, a man that used to play music with my Dad came to see my mom and invited her to hear a young man (his nephew) sing. This young man was going to be singing a song that my Dad wrote and recorded. The name of the song is "Look Out, Heart". My Mom couldn't go. I don't know if I could have either, you see...there is only one person I hear when I think about that song and he's not here to sing it anymore.

When it rains, it pours

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair and agony on me.

Remember that song from Hee Haw? Well...lately that's been my "theme song"

Woes vs Blessings

My grandson is 320 miles away.
**I have a grandchild and another on the way.

AC Unit is out.
*I have the resources to have my AC replaced.

Bought a window unit to help keep us cool, but, it keeps throwing the breaker every 10 minutes.
*
Was able to find a nice window unit cheap.

Brakes had to be replaced on my car.
*Sam had enough money stashed away to pay for my brakes.

Cody "accidentally" hit decline when accepting his life scholarship.
*Clemson has very helpful people, the problem was fixed right away.

My favorite sandals broke.
*Payless is having a sale.

I'm out of Diet Dr. Pepper
*I have a grocery store at every corner.

My house is a mess and it's too hot to clean.
*I have a house.

Can't run my dryer because it heats up the house.
*I found a drying rack at target.

Just realized Sam's tag has expired.
**Mister "Nice Guy" never gets a ticket.
(unlike Me)

Cody forgot how to help clean house.
*I'll give him a refresher course tonight.

I have to take cold showers instead of a hot bath.
*Cold showers really shrinks the pores.

IT'S JULY THE 9TH!!!!

NOT THE 4TH!

Do people not know this? Every night since the 4th I have had to put up with fireworks being shot not far from my house. I am usually at my computer at night and since we have no air conditioner, I raise my window, only to be assaulted by the constant boom, boom, boom. Maybe I'm just getting "old". ( I will be a Grandmother of 2, you know). It wouldn't bother me as much if it were kids outside shooting the fireworks, but they don't start until 10:00 or 11:00, and the voices and laughter are definitely older.... yep, teenagers.

I just need to remember....

*How fun it was as a teenager on hot summer nights to be outside hanging out with friends.

*How we didn't think about the fact that we might be disturbing others

*How we were just caught up in the moment, we were being young, we weren't hurting anyone.

I just need to remember....

Maybe... I'll just close my window

1st Photos

Well....here he/she is. The first photos of my newest grandchild. Due Date is Feb. 10th.

Man...this is going to be a looong 7 months!

The Phone Call

I have been anticipating this phone call :

Phone rings

Me: Hello

Josh: Hey Mom, what's going on?

Me: Not much, what's going on with you today?

Josh: Well...just called to tell you that you're going to be a Grandmother again. Kelly's preg
nant!

There's more to the conversation but I just can't remember it.

My "firstborn" and his wife are expecting their "firstborn"

For once in my life I'm at a loss for words, I'll write more later after I compose myself.
